Guaranteed service time slots: 6:30–9:30 and 17:00–20:00

SCANDICCI, May 22, 2026 – On Friday, May 29, 2026, tram services may be subject to delays or cancellations due to a 24-hour general strike proclaimed by the Confederazione Unitaria di Base (CUB), Associazione Difesa Lavoratrici e Lavoratori Varese (ADL VARESE), Sindacato Generale di Base (SGB), Si Cobas and Usi Cit.
The strike will involve both operating staff and administrative employees.

The strike will take place from the start of service until 6:30, from 9:30 to 17:00, and from 20:00 until the end of service.

Service regularity outside the guaranteed time slots will depend on participation in the strike. Participation in the last 24-hour strike called by CUB–COBAS was 22.2%.

Reasons

AGAINST deaths at work – FOR the protection of workers’ health and safety both in and outside workplaces.

AGAINST war, the war economy, and increased military spending – AGAINST EU policies and NATO’s presence in Italy. FOR peace, starting from the Middle East and Europe. FOR investment in healthcare, education, transport, territorial safety, and welfare, whose deterioration worsens existing inequalities and poverty;

AGAINST labor exploitation, precarious employment, and the failure to adjust wages in both the public and private sectors. FOR substantial increases in wages and pensions. FOR the introduction of a minimum wage of no less than €12 per hour and FOR the reintroduction of an automatic wage adjustment mechanism linked to the cost of living;

AGAINST the genocide in Palestine, the supply of arms to Israel, and the lack of concrete action to dissociate from the crimes committed by the Israeli government in Palestine and Lebanon, as well as those committed by the United States in Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran – FOR support of the new Flotilla mission and protection of volunteers delivering aid to the Palestinian and Cuban peoples. FOR sanctions against Israel and the United States, and for the suspension of diplomatic and trade relations with both;

AGAINST the absence of social policies, starting with the housing emergency and the lack of public housing development plans, FOR a serious reform of social safety nets;

AGAINST repressive “Security” decree policies (such as Decree-Law 23/2026 and those of 2025) aimed at strengthening repression of dissent, protests, and urban security;

AGAINST the entire framework of Laws 146/90 and 83/00, which restrict the right to strike, as well as the abuses of the Guarantee Commission through rulings that further limit the right to strike and attempts to silence struggles in the logistics sector. FOR the repeal of Laws 146/90 and 83/00 and for a democratic law on trade union representation;

AGAINST the absence of industrial policies capable of addressing ongoing transitions and overcoming the current phase of high conflict, which risks triggering further deindustrialization and exploitation of working people;
