SCANDICCI, June 13, 2025 – GEST informs that on June 20, 2025, tram services may experience delays or cancellations due to a 24-hour national general strike called by CUB (Confederazione Unitaria di Base), SGB (Sindacato Generale di Base), and USB (Unione Sindacale di Base) for the public transport sector. The strike has been joined by SGB, USB Lavoro Privato, and CUB Trasporti.
Service will be guaranteed during the following time slots:
- From 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM
- From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
The strike will involve both operating staff and office employees. For workers and office staff, the strike will cover the entire work shift.
The regularity of tram service outside the guaranteed time slots will depend on the level of participation in the strike. The participation rate in previous strikes called by the same unions was 0%.
Reasons for the Strike
The national strike has been called to protest against:
- The genocide in Palestine
- War and the increase in military spending
- Exploitation and job insecurity
- The lack of social and industrial policies
- Workplace fatalities
- The “Sbarra” law
The strike also demands:
- Wage increases
- Reduction of working hours
- Improved safety and health protections in the workplace
- A halt to privatizations and related public transport tenders
