Friday, November 28, 2025 – National General Strike: Tramway Service Also Affected

Nov 20, 2025

Guaranteed Service Hours: 6:30–9:30 AM and 5:00–8:00 PM

SCANDICCI, November 20, 2025 – GEST informs that on November 28, 2025, tram services may experience delays or cancellations due to a 24-hour national general strike called by the Confederazione Unitaria di Base, with participation from CUB Trasporti and COBAS Lavoro Privato.

Service will be guaranteed from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The strike will involve both operating staff and office employees.
For workers and employees, the strike will cover the entire work shift.
Service regularity outside the guaranteed time slots will depend on strike participation. The participation rate in previous strikes called by the same unions was 13.18%.

Reasons for the Strike

  • Recognition of the State of Palestine, the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, and condemnation of the genocide perpetrated by Israel, as well as a genuine peace agreement that includes the withdrawal of the IDF from Palestinian territories, lifting the naval blockade of Gaza, and free movement of people and goods to and from Palestine;
  • Blocking military spending and the shipment of weapons to Ukraine and Palestine, and redirecting economic investments toward education, public healthcare, transportation, guaranteed wages, and reinstating the Citizenship Income;
  • Investments in universal public healthcare, public schools and universities, public transportation, welfare (including a public pension system), and workplace health and safety;
  • Increasing wages and pensions to recover purchasing power lost over the past 20 years, restoring automatic salary adjustment mechanisms, approving a minimum wage of at least €12 per hour, and reinstating Citizenship Income to combat poverty;
  • Launching a new structural plan for public housing, including the reuse of currently unused public assets, for the benefit of working-class sectors and workers;
  • Adopting a new energy policy that protects the environment and uses renewable sources, without resorting to nuclear power or regasification plants.

AGAINST

  • The complicity of the Italian Government and the EU in the genocide of the Palestinian people;
  • The war economy and war itself, a true human and social disaster for peoples and workers;
  • The 2026 Budget Law, which plunders the future of the working class and includes an increase in military spending up to €22 billion over three years;
  • Privatizations and the system of contracts/subcontracts that undermine collective interests in favor of companies and speculators.
