SCANDICCI, December 31, 2025 – GEST announces that Line T2 has resumed regular service after the shutdown caused by last night’s fire at the Hack Bridge in Novoli, in record time to ensure transportation for New Year’s Eve.
The reopening has been made possible following external technical assessments with specific conditions, such as operating at reduced speed and performing daily structural inspections. The tramway bridge named after Margherita Hack suffered significant and costly damage after being scorched by the flames.
This reopening should be considered temporary, pending extensive monitoring and restoration work that will be carried out in the coming weeks. The fire also damaged approximately 50 meters of medium-voltage tramway cables. Trams can operate during this phase thanks to a medium-voltage line bypass, but it is important to stress that this remains a complex situation, not without potential challenges.
The stops San Donato Università, Buonsignori Liceo da Vinci, and Ponte all’Asse, which had been suspended, have now reopened and are fully operational.
The restoration of Line T2 was made possible thanks to the tireless efforts of GEST technicians and workers, who rushed to the site of the fire—some even returning from vacation—as well as external specialists who carried out the necessary inspections.
